The Steering Committee is the leadership group and governing body for Lamorinda Moms Club. It consists of women who manage everything from the club’s finances; communication tools (website and newsletter); events; and activities to its relationships with the community, press, and other moms clubs in our area. This is a fun group that bonds quickly due to monthly meetings, frequent phone calls, and a shared sense of commitment to the club. Steering Committee members may spend anywhere from a few hours per month to several hours per week on their jobs, depending on the position. Their term of office follows the LMC fiscal year: September to August. Members attend a welcome event in September, monthly Steering Committee meetings following each Monthly Meeting, and a celebratory event in May or June, when members may transition to new leadership roles if they wish. Anyone can volunteer to become part of the Steering Committee; no prior LMC volunteer experience is required.
All Steering Committee PositionsSteering Committee members serve from September to August. While most of the positions are filled at the current time, we will begin filling positions for the next term of office this summer. Most positions can be a job share. Volunteer now for an open Steering Committee position. For more information about any of the positions below, please contact us. Co-Director: Do you like to jump in with both feet? If so, this is the job for you. You’ll oversee and guide all committees, lead monthly steering committee and general meetings, and write a monthly column for the newsletter. You’ll also plan and manage the Steering Committee transition process in August. Community Outreach: Looking for a way to give back to our community? The community outreach committee coordinates club philanthropic activities. Previous activities have included food, toy, book, and clothing drives; as well as the tremendously successful holiday Adopt-A-Family program. Our Community Outreach team works closely with the Social Event Chairs, since our outreach drives are typically coordinated with our social events. Council Liaison: Would you like to see what other moms clubs in the East Bay have to offer? Our liaison serves as the primary contact between the LMC and the Mothers Club East Bay Council (“MCEBC”) by attending two meetings yearly and one annual workshop and by participating in the MCEBC on-line community. The person who takes this position will learn a lot about how LMC and other local moms clubs operate. Mom Din/In-a-Pinch Coordinator: Looking for a way to reach out to moms who need a little extra help? This is one of the most important support functions administered by our club. These folks keep track of expectant mothers and their due dates, assign coordinators to schedule dinners following the birth of their babies, and send information on new moms and mom din coordinators to the newsletter committee. Any instances of moms who are in-a-pinch are handled in the same manner. Neighborhood Zones Chairperson: Get to know your neighbors! The Neighborhood Zones Chairperson oversees a committee of several zone coordinators (our zones are organized geographically, by elementary school boundaries). This committee facilitates fun events that give LMC members a chance to socialize with their immediate neighbors. From time to time, the Neighborhood Zone Chair also submits a short newsletter item covering Neighborhood Zone activities. Neighborhood Zones Committee Member (one to two people per zone): In each neighborhood zone (organized geographically by elementary school boundary lines), committee members coordinate at least two events during the year, giving members a chance to get to know their immediate neighbors. These events can be as casual as a meeting at a playground or pizza place, as fun as a pumpkin decorating party, or as formal as a dinner party with no kids allowed—whatever you’re in the mood to plan! Playgroup Coordinator: Playgroups are one of the most popular benefits of membership. The LMC playgroup coordinator has the fun role of creating and filling playgroups with new members. In addition, this person writes a playgroup news blurb for the LMC newsletter. Thanks to the web team, playgroup sign-ups are offered online through the club website, too. Publicity: Do you have an advertising or publicity background, or would you like some experience in that arena? Our Publicity Chairs ensure that the club’s profile within the community remains prominent via various forms of print and other media. Secretary: In this position, you’ll alternate attending LMC’s monthly Steering Committee meetings, taking meeting notes, emailing minutes to the board members, and posting information to the website. Our secretary also takes care of all club thank-you notes. Treasurer: The treasurer processes LMC bills and expense reimbursements, manages the budget, and deposits LMC revenue. Our process is automated and easy to learn. Volunteer Coordinator: The Volunteer Coordinator updates the Volunteer Corner segment of the monthly newsletter, supports all Steering Committee members in filling positions, and assists the general membership in satisfying their two hour volunteer requirement. Welcoming Committee Chairperson: Do you like to throw small parties and meet new people? The Welcoming Committee Chairperson plans and hosts informal teas in their homes to welcome the newest members to our club. The teas include an overview of what the club has to offer families in the Lamorinda area, and an opportunity to ask questions and become more familiar with club resources. It’s a great way to meet some new friends. Meeting TeamMeeting Coordinator: Looking for a creative outlet? Look no further. Our Meeting Coordinator generates new topic ideas and set up speakers for our Monthly Meetings. If you like to write, there are plenty of opportunities to do so in this position, including corresponding with speakers and writing meeting previews for the newsletter and website. Additionally, our Meeting Coordinator coordinates our monthly meeting space, attend meetings and introduce speakers, and ensure a recap is written and refreshments are provided. Meeting Recap Writer: In this role, you’ll write the Meeting Recap notes for our monthly newsletter. All you have to do is attend a few of our upcoming Meetings, take some notes and then write a brief summary to submit, via email, to our Newsletter Team. Meeting Refreshments Coordinator: In this position, you’ll coordinate and guide volunteers with the planning and purchasing of refreshments for our Meetings. Membership TeamMembership Database Manager: LMC’s Membership Database Manager processes new member applications, creates various reports from the membership database, and submits content for LMC’s monthly newsletter. Currently, the person who holds this position also oversees LMC’s Evite function and manages the annual membership renewal campaign. Membership Incoming Inquiries: The person who handles our incoming membership inquiries checks our membership hotline, returns calls, and coordinates distribution of membership packets to prospective new members through our Membership Outgoing Packets volunteer. New Membership Packets: This volunteer mails a welcome letter and roster to new members on a weekly basis and maintains supplies (envelopes, stamps, and copies of LMC’s membership roster). New Member Bios: What a great way to get to know lots of new members! In this position, you’ll contact new members (primarily via email) and provide them with a questionnaire. You’ll then compile brief bios for inclusion in the newsletter each month. Newsletter TeamAdvertising: Be part of a team! This fun position involves working with continuing and prospective advertisers to coordinate LMC’s newsletter advertisements. You’ll field phone calls and e-mails from advertisers, communicate with other newsletter team members, and produce a simple spreadsheet each month to track advertising revenue. Cook’s Corner Contributor: Love to cook? Wish you could cook? Solicit and submit a monthly recipe for our newsletter, and expand your own culinary repertory. Newsletter Copy Editors: These women proof every article before our newsletter hits the street. Newsletter Input Coordinator: In this position, you’ll collect all the incoming submissions for the next month’s newsletter, format them and pass them on to the newsletter production team. This is a great position for someone who wants to know more about all the club’s activities. Newsletter Layout Team: Members of our layout team alternate months creating our newsletter layout from the content and advertisements submitted to our Newsletter Input Coordinator. Our Newsletter Editor and Co-Directors provide high level input into decisions over what content to include each month. Social TeamSocial Event Chairpersons: Each of our Social Event Chairpersons plan, manage, and execute (with the help of LMC volunteers) one of LMC’s annual social events, including our Halloween Event, Holiday Party, and Egg Hunt. Generally, there are two Chairs for each event. Preschool Fair Chairpersons: It runs like clockwork, so if you’re looking to help out but are not quite ready to run the joint, this might be just the ticket! As part of this team you will organize and administer LMC’s popular annual preschool fair, coordinate the updating of our preschool list, and provide the list to attendees at the annual preschool fair. Website TeamWeb Committee Chairperson: This position involves management of all web committee tasks. Other Steering Committee PositionBest of Lamorinda Coordinators (two people): If you’re looking to find the best hair colorist, family-friendly restaurant, women’s boutique, or pediatric dentist in Lamorinda, coordinating the Lamorinda Moms Club’s Annual Best of Lamorinda survey may be just the position for you. Our Best of Lamorinda Coordinators oversee all aspects of conducting the survey and publicizing the results, including updating the nomination form, surveying members, collecting and compiling data, issuing certificates to our winning merchants, and publicizing results to our community.
