Starbucks is recalling 250,000 children's cups after the company received two reports of children choking on broken pieces, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Tuesday. Starbucks is offering a free beverage, or a refund, for returned cups. About 250,000 children's 10-ounce cups, made in China, are included in the recall. The cups come in four styles with animal faces: Dot Red Ladybug, Dash Green Turtle, Bunny Pink and Chick Yellow. If the cup is dropped, the broken pieces of plastic could either cut a child or cause choking if swallowed, Starbucks officials said. There have been seven reports of pieces breaking off the cups, they said. The cups were sold at Starbucks stores nationwide from May 2006 through August 2007 for about $6. Consumers should stop using the cups immediately, Starbucks officials said. For more information, go to www.starbucks.com or www.cpsc.gov. |
