Before you know it, it will be summer! Now is the time to look into swimming lessons and water safety instruction for your youngster(s). Many membership clubs like Oakwood and Springbrook Pool in Lafayette offer lessons for their members only. There are however, other local opportunities that do not require a club membership. Below is a listing that specifically offers classes for children under five and some offer Parent/Caregiver and Child lessons as well.

AUHSD offers lessons for children four and up at the Soda Aquatic Center at Campolindo High School in Moraga, Miramonte High School in Orinda and Acalanes High School in Lafayette. www.acalanes.k12.ca.us/aquatics

Harriet Plummer Aquatic School in Lafayette offers lessons for children three through ten year-round. www.harrietplummer.com

Little Dipper Swim School in Pleasant Hill offers Parent/Caregiver and Child classes, semi-private and group classes year-round. www.littledipperswimschool.com

Lafayette-Moraga Youth Association (LMYA) offers a program called Gutter Guppies for children six and under who are not ready for the swim team. Registration and tryouts will be held May 22 and June 4. The child must be able to swim 15 feet unassisted to participate. Practice is held at Acalanes High School starting June 18. www.lmyaswim.com

Larkey Swim Club in Walnut Creek is a private club that offers lessons to the public. www.larkey.org

Sherman Swim School in Lafayette offers private and semi-private lessons for children age nine months and up. www.shermanswim.com

Splash Swim School in San Ramon offers programs for children six months and up year-round. www.splashswimschool.com

Sue’s Swim School in Alamo offers lessons for all ages. www.sueswimschool.com

YMCA in Pleasant Hill is a membership club but they offer lessons including Parent/Caregiver and Child, group and private in their year-round pool to non-members. Other YMCA facilities in our area offer lessons as well. www.ymca.com
