Clothes For Babies

Baby Clothes Needed for Underprivileged Newborns.

I have started a clothing drive in conjunction with the Social Services departments at various hospitalsin the Bay Area. Upon departure from the hospital, others under special circumstances will receive a boxof clothes to make her transition into motherhood a ittle easier.

I am seeking donations of used baby clothes, blankets, small toys, etc... (Newborn – 12 months). If you havetime to snap the onesies, it would save our volunteers ots of time. So far, over 2000 pounds of baby clotheshave been donated.

Bay Area Crisis Nursery

Wondering what to do with the diapers left over when your child is potty trained, or the last containers of baby food or formula? Do you have piles of gently used clothes or toys that your child has outgrown? Bay Area Crisis Nursery is always in need of donations.

The purpose of the Bay Area Crisis Nursery is to prevent abuse and neglect of children by providing support to families who are in stress or crisis. Its primary service is providing a warm, loving, homelike environment for children from birth through five years of age by offering 24-hour residential care. The services are free, confidential, and voluntary.

Possible donations
  • Baby food.
  • Diapers (all sizes).
  • Gently used clothes.
  • Gently used toys. Soft toys only accepted with the tags still attached.
  • Formula.
  • Non-perishable foods (for the parent room).
  • Wet wipes.
They can’t accept:
  • Computers.
  • Furniture.
  • Used stuffed animals.

Drop-off hours are 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. at 1506 Mendocino Drive in Concord.

Mary's House in San Pablo

It is a non-profit center helping women in crisis pregnancy (homeless or victims of domestic violence)18+ with babies get back on their feet. They allow the women to live at the home along with the children until the time the babies are 6 months old all the while providing tools for the women to re-enter society.

They accept
  • Baby clothing. (Clean, without stains or tears or missing buttons.)
  • Baby toys and gear. (Functioning properly.)
  • Men's, women's, and children's clothing.
  • Small household items.

Stuffed Animals for Oakland Children's Hospital

Do you have new or barely worn Beanie Babies you don't need any more? If
so, we have a wonderful donation opportunity for you. We are looking for
Beanie Babies or small stuffed animals that are new or like-new to
provide to the children at Oakland Children's Hospital.

Imagine the comfort a small, cuddly animal could provide to a child
overcome with fear upon entering the hospital. We make a tag for each
one that says "You are Special." The Chaplin at the hospital provides
the little animals to the Emergency Room and to children staying at the
hospital.

The Beanie Babies are delivered to the hospital every 3 months. We

Books 
Friends of the Lafayette Library used book sales   

They accept books, records, music CDs, VHS videos, books on tape, etc.     

Donations can be brought to the Book Room on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 8-10 or during the sales. They can also be brought to the library and put in the barrel just inside the entrance, to the left.

Electronic Waste Events November 2006 – January 2007

Below is a list of BART Stations in Contra Costa County that is participating in Electronic Waste Collection Events. Drop-off is FREE.  For more detailed information, please contact Universal Waste Management toll free at 1-888-832-9839.

  • Saturday, November 11, 2006 at Walnut Creek Station. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Sunday, November 12, 2006 at Lafayette Station. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 Examples of electronic waste that can be dropped off ( No household appliances, please):

 Everything Else
Contra Costa Crisis Center

CCCC has twelve homeless shelters. They take everything but: television sets, microwave ovens, typewriters, telephones, kitchen appliances, exercise equipment, children's equipment (car seats, high chairs, playpens, cribs, etc.), window coverings (draperies or rods, blinds, shutters), or electric blankets.

Donated merchandise is accepted only during hours that the shop is open. It's a good idea to call first (925.930.9393) before bringing donations.

Harbor House Ministries

Harbor House is a community center located in the diverse and vibrant San Antonio community of Oakland.  For over 33 years we have worked with our community to create opportunities for individuals and families to become self-sufficient.

Donate Fresh Fruits and Vegetables from Your Garden.

Think of Us! Are you wondering what to do with all of your excess backyard fruit? Have you seen fruit going to waste on trees around your neighborhood? The Food Bank will gladly take any picked fruit that is in good condition.

If you are able to pick the fruit yourself, we urge you to bring it to the Food Bank in either location (Concord or Fairfield) or to a local agency or program in your area. Please call the Food Bank at (925) 676-7543 to receive a list of agencies who have signed up to accept produce. The food we have collected through this program allows us to provide fresh fruit to people who would otherwise go without.

The Mothers' Milk Bank

The Mothers' Milk Bank, a non-profit organization whose mission is to meet an importantnational health need by collecting, processing and distributinghuman milk, is in dire need of volunteer donors. Since 1974, the demand for donor milk has increased dramatically, especially in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units. As the only milk bank in the Western US, our milk bank has had to supply hospitals in Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and California. Hair
Locks of Love

Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

They accept 10" minimum hair length (tip to tip).
They need hair from men and women, young and old, all colors and races.
